The Welsh construction industry is set to grow at nearly triple the UK average, with more than 27,000 jobs expected to be created in the coming five years, according to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). But North Wales is short of new recruits into the construction sector and this means organisations working together to fill the vacancies.

K&C Construction, working with developers Pure Homes and Pure Commercial, has joined with Wrexham Glyndŵr University and The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) initiatives to help attract, inform and retain much needed talent in the building and construction sector.

As part of this K&C Construction took part in a recent event called GoConstruct at the university for school age children which was hosted by Aspire 2 Be utilising the Minecraft game to introduce the concept of building and construction as a career to the children.

K&C Construction also attended the Industrial Engagement Student Conference at Glyndŵr University to give a presentation to the students, conduct mock interviews and discuss the sort of vacancies that they have on its developments at St Asaph, Denbigh, Llanfair DC, Frodsham, Chester and Ruabon for example, so that students can find out more about working in construction.

Dave Cheesbrough, Construction Management programme leader at the University which offers courses and training in construction said; “North East Wales has a thriving construction industry and we’re encouraging anyone interested in developing a career in construction.”

Jo Sweeney, Group HR Manager attended the event and said;

“We have had a lot of interest from students who attended the event and want to attend an open day to talk about careers with Pure in more detail. We are looking to arrange this for the end of March or early April once their exams are over. And we will be offering work shadowing and placements to the students.

She added: “We have also been asked to be a formative part of the University’s Industrial Liaison Board for engagement between the university, students and businesses and we will have an input into future events at the university, attending meetings to establish the forum.”
